Where did

Evanescence is a rock band originating from Little Rock, Arkansas. The group was founded by Amy Lee, the vocalist, and Ben Moody who was the original lead guitarist but left the band in October 2003. Initially, Evanescence was considered to be a Christian rock band and briefly was promoted in Christian stores. Although the band has now distanced themselves from this categorization, their first major-label album release, Fallen, which debuted in 2003, contained songs such as "Tourniquet," which addressed religious themes.

The Founding of Evanescence

Lee and Moody met at a school camp in Arkansas and discovered they had a mutual love of Jimi Hendrix and Bjork. After writing songs together and achieving popularity with a song called "Understanding," which had success on local music charts, the two began to hunt for other musicians in order to be able to put on a live performance. While they could afford to pay musicians only a couple of times each year, their subsequent live shows made them one of the most popular acts in the area. They released their first album in 2000, and, although relatively unknown, Origin is now much sought after by fans and collectors.

Global Popularity

The debut single "Bring Me to Life" from the album Fallen became a global hit for Evanescence, and made it onto the soundtrack for the movie Daredevil. At the 2004 Grammy Awards, the single won Best Hard Rock Performance and Evanescence gained the Best New Artist award. Fallen has sold over 12 million copies worldwide. Evanescence are currently in the process of writing their follow-up album.

The band members now are Amy Lee on vocals, John LeCompt on guitar, Rocky Gray on drums, William Boyd on bass and Terry Balsamo, who replaced Ben Moody on guitar.
