whip-poor-will (Caprimulgus vociferus ), thechuck-will's-widow (Caprimulgus carolinensis ), and thecommon nighthawk (Chordeiles minor ); -- called popularly thegoatsuckers ornightjars . The nighthawks are sometimes active during the day.
