I'm European and I'd always wanted to believe I am part of a continent, not just a country. I don't think there really is a European identity, though, perhaps because few of share a language, perhaps because we've been at war with each other so many times, perhaps because of our cultural differences.
I thoroughly enjoy meeting my European neighbours and I always have good experiences. But the same is true with people from other parts of the world. I don't feel that much more in common with someone from Slovenia as I do someone from Singapore or the Seychelles.
