What A-LICES Shampoo is used for and how it works:

A-LICES Shampoo is used for the treatment of head lice and pubic lice. It contains malathion which kills head lice and crab lice.

Before you use A-LICES Shampoo

Do not use A-LICES Shampoo if:

  • You are allergic to Malathion or to any of the other ingredients
  • Treating and infant less than 6 months old, except on medical advice

Before you start to use it

You must tell your doctor or pharmacist if you:

  • are pregnant or breast-feeding

How A-LICES Shampoo is used

Follow all directions given to you by your doctor or pharmacist. Always check the label for directions on how to take your medicine.

Your pharmacist will help if you are not sure.

  • avoid the eyes
  • if you are a healthcare professional in regular contact with this product you should wear protective gloves
  • this treatment is for external use only
  • this treatment is not for prolonged use
  • this treatment may affect permed, coloured or bleached hair

Adults, Children and Infants aged 6 months and over:

For head lice - The source of infestation should be sought and treated. Wet hair and apply sufficient quantity of shampoo to the roots of hair and scalp and work up a rich lather. Pay special attention to partings, back of neck and around the ears. Leave on at least 10 minutes before rinsing. Comb the hair whilst wet to remove dead lice and eggs (nits).
A second application is usually recommended a week after the first application.
Bedding, comb, cap, towel, and clothing must be washed to prevent re-infection. Avoid contact with infected persons

For pubic lice - Wet area and apply directly to pubic hair and hair between the legs and around the anus. Cover the skin and hair completely with the shampoo. Leave for at least 10 minutes before rinsing. Remove dead lice and eggs (nits) with a fine comb.
A second application is usually recommended a week after the first application.

Side Effects

Very rarely skin irritation

In Case of Overdose

Immediately telephone your doctor of Poisons Information Centre (in New Zealand phone 0800 POISON or 0800 764 766), or go to the accident and emergency centre at your nearest hospital, if you or anyone else swallows A-LICES Shampoo.

Storage

Do not use any medicine after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
Do not store above 30°C.
Store in the original package.
Keep it secure where children cannot reach it. Your medicine could harm them.

Disposal

If you have any A-LICES Shampoo left over, ask your pharmacist what to do with any that are left over.
