What ATROVENT FORTE is used for
ATROVENT FORTE is used to make breathing easier for people with diseases such as asthma, emphysema, (a serious condition that makes breathing difficult), and chronic obstructive bronchitis.
ATROVENT FORTE improves air flow by relaxing the muscular tubes (air passages) that carry air to and from your lungs. It begins to act quickly after use but may take up to 2 hours to give maximum benefit.
This medicine is known as an anticholinergic bronchodilator. It is for relief of symptoms and should be part of a management program that is prescribed by your doctor.
Before you use ATROVENT FORTE
When not to use ATROVENT FORTE
The plastic mouthpiece has been specially designed for use with ATROVENT. The mouthpiece must never be used with any other metered aerosol nor must the ATROVENT metered aerosol be used with any mouthpiece other than the one supplied with the product.
Only use ATROVENT FORTE if a doctor has prescribed it for you. Never give it to someone else even if their symptoms seem to be the same as yours.
Do not use ATROVENT FORTE if you are allergic to it or to any of the ingredients. These ingredients are ipratropium bromide and soya lecithin in a mixture of CFC-containing propellant gases.
In some cases you should not use ATROVENT FORTE if you are allergic to certain other medicines. You must tell your doctor if you are allergic to any other medicine, particularly atropine or other anticholinergic medicines. If you are uncertain as to whether you have these allergies you should raise those concerns with your doctor.
You should never use ATROVENT FORTE after the EXPIRY DATE on the canister or carton.

ATROVENT FORTE may be used with other medicines that relax the air passages for additional symptom relief when prescribed by a doctor.

- Replace the protective cap on the mouthpiece.
Care and Cleaning
In order to obtain the best service from your ATROVENT FORTE Metered Aerosol, these simple directions on maintenance should be carefully observed.
The most common causes of failure of the metering device of the aerosol to function are:
- Blockage of the 2 pin holes in the stem of the vial (A, B).
- A dirty or blocked mouthpiece.
1. Blockage of the pin holes in the stem of the vial
There are 2 pin holes in the stem of the vial, hole A at the side near the base of the stem and hole B at the end of the stem (see diagram).
If these holes become blocked, pull out the vial from the mouthpiece and clear them by rinsing well in clean, lukewarm water.
When dry, reassemble the vial for use by fitting the stem of the vial into the inner hole, at the base of the long end of the mouthpiece.
2. A dirty or blocked mouthpieceAlways replace the protective cap on the mouthpiece after use to prevent the inside of the apparatus becoming dusty.
The mouthpiece of the ATROVENT FORTE Metered Aerosol should be kept clean by washing regularly in warm soapy water, rinsing in clear water and drying on a clean tissue.
Remember to take out the vial before you wash the mouthpiece.
When removing the vial from the mouthpiece, pull out carefully to avoid bending the stem.
Never press the stem against a firm surface to check for function.
This may bend the stem and lead to malfunction of the aerosol.
