(grēgô´rĕ əlĕksəndrĕ´sk), 1812–85, Romanian poet. Of a noble family, he was active in secret revolutionary societies. In his fables he commented ironically on the complications of living in a Russian protectorate and tried to encourage pride in the national heritage. In The Tombs at Drăgăşani he recalls the greatness of the Romanian past.
