(ä´nä lē´zä hārtroi´dä bôs´bōm-tsăN´), 1812–86, Dutch novelist. She published her first novel, Almagro, in 1837. Her perceptive historical fiction was written in ornate and purposely archaic style. One of her chief works treated modern life; this epistolary novel, Majoor Frans (1874, tr. Major Frank, 1886), exhibits a real appreciation of the problems of women.
