(rōbâr´ lôrĕnt´), 18901970, American sculptor, b. France. He emigrated to the United States in 1902 and later studied in Rome. Progressing from early decorative works, he developed a monumental, dignified figural style. His works are exhibited in many American museums. Among Laurent's sculptures in many media are

Awakening (Whitney Mus., New York City), and
Spanning the Continent (Fairmount Park, Philadelphia). His
