Clumber Spaniel
Related Category: Dogs
breed of medium-sized
sporting dog developed in France and perfected at Clumber Park, an English estate. It stands about 17 in. (43.2 cm) high at the shoulder and weighs between 50 and 60 lb (22.727.2 kg). Its dense coat of straight, silky hair is lemon and white or orange and white and forms long, luxuriant fringes, or feathers, on the chest and legs. The heavy-boned, low, short body of the clumber resembles no other spaniel and suggests early crossbreeding with the basset hound. The tail is docked. Although a slow worker, the clumber makes an excellent hunter and retriever when trained. See
