Why do earthworms come out in the rain?

The amount of oxygen in water is less than that in the air. So, earthworms leave the ground when their wormholes fill with rainwater. However, they can live underwater for many days.

Earthworms came out in rain because in this season they feel wet inside and amount of O2 is less than that in the air. Although, they have the capability to live stay in underwater for many days. Therefore earthworms leave their houses just to feel free and enjoy the rain.

Because the water soaks all the water up and if the worms stay in the ground the water will flood their homes and they will drowned

I imagine it's because they thrive in moisture, but also enjoy oxygen, as they don't have gills.
