You can.

Renting a car has both pros and cons.
Pros- You don't have to wait to a ride or get stranded anywhere. Your ride is always at your beck and call.

Cons- These rides (or the agency providing the rides) may have a predefined path set. So you are actually seeing places they are taking you to. Unless you have prepared beforehand and know about the locations. Many a times this leads to conflict between the drivers and passengers for they do not want to travel that route.

But there are good drivers too :D
