I am thinking about getting a cat in the near future, and I need all of the advice I can get on how to take care of it. Please help!
Cats are more variable than dogs. Some cats are very friendly but then they bite. I had one that seemed really affectionate, but he got sick and the treatment cost 450 bux. Then he started biting us. He had feline aids so he had to be kept inside, but we couldn't keep a biter inside so I gave him back where he came from and they put him down.
Some are not friendly at all. I had a family of Siamese that wouldn't even nurse their kittens, and after I bottle fed the kittens, they didn't want to get friendly either.
Considering shots and food and vet treatments. it's hard to justify any pet at all. It used to be that a pet wandered in and stayed because we fed it, and one day it just didn't come home for dinner. Things don't happen that way any more, and refusing to spend money on a pet is considered criminal now. So I just refuse to participate.
It really depends on what hard means to you. I have a cat and he is so loving and adoring. Some good advice is to make it feel comfortable when it comes home. Studies show that if you cuddle it and make it feel comfortable, it is more likely to like you. Let it explore your home. If you have young children, I would suggest them leaving the house so the cat can roam around and the children not surrounding him or her. In my opinion it is quite easy to take care of a cat.
