Well, yes, but you have to choose something you know how to do. That usually means schooling. And it is dangerous to rely on other people's advice. For example, almost everybody will tell you that you are headed for a life of misery if you don't get a college degree. That is why so few people go to truck driver school, and truck drivers make about as much as college graduates.
Another bunch of people will tell you that you need to be independent, like run your own business. Well, 80% of people who do that fail. But if you had a parent who ran a small business, there is 80% you will succeed. So you get to choose, but your choice depends on what you already know and what advice you get about training.
In the coming years you will make many decisions regarding worship, marriage, employment, family and other vital matters. Wise choices will be easier if you first know where you are headed. Now is the appropriate time to start thinking about what you want to do in life.
Proverbs 14:15 says: the shrewd one considers his steps.
You will have a wide variety of options, but, really it's all up to you and it's about setting goals. Think of a goal as your target destination. You will likely not make it if you wander about aimlessly. Proverbs 4:26 says: Smooth out the course of your foot, or, know where you are headed.
It's okay to get input from others, those who have your best interest at heart. Your parents are there for you. God want you to make choices that will bring you happiness. So remember to always include him in your choices. He gives the best guidance, the best advice, and wonderful Bible principles which are always beneficial for a good life.
Yes, you have a say in how your future turns out. But consider this advice from wise King Solomon at Proverbs 27:11 - "Be wise, my son, and make my heart rejoice, So that I can make a reply to him who taunts me."
Just think—when you wisely make decisions based on the principles set out in the Bible, you bring joy to the heart of our loving heavenly Father. Why? Because he cares for you and wants you to benefit yourself by following his guidance. The choices you make can follow you for life, can bring you either joy or regret, so be wise when considering your future and keep God in your life and he will give you the best direction possible.
There is always more than one choice but some of those choices have consequences. Like for an example of a choice with a consequence, 'a boy decides to lie to his elder that he broke the vase. when the boy tells his elder the truth a week later the consequence is bigger than it would be if the boy told the truth right away'. I hope this was helpful.
