I think the best (and cheapest) way to quit smoking is to go "cold turkey", meaning to just stop and not touch a cigarette again. Smoke the last one in the pack and that's it... no more. The first 3 days to about 1 week are the hardest. You just have to pull through. After about two weeks it gets much much easier.

Other people find it easier to ease themselves out by chewing the nicotine gum or lozenge for a few weeks. That way you can break the habit first and deal with the nicotine addiction thereafter.
