LP means "Long Playing".
Vinyl records were made in several formats. The most common were the 45 RPM and the 12" LP album. The LP meant the grooves were closer together, that's all.
There are two kinds of radio transmission. AM uses the audio signal to vary the power of the signal and FM uses the audio to vary the frequency. The rest of the explanation is rather complicated.
