Can a debit card be used as a Mastercard?

Yes some debit cards can be used like a credit card (i.e. you can shop online, buy flights, use it overseas etc), the difference is that the money you use goes straight out of your account and is not charged 6 weeks later all at once like a credit card. So you actually need to have money on your account to use it.
It needs to be a debit card that has the visa or mastercard symbol on it though. Ask at your bank if you can get one of those if you don't have one. :-)
