I'm 22 years old and still live under my parents' roof. They will be getting a divorce and I'm getting very confused about the whole keeping track of "marital property" situation. I have a collection of memorabilia that I spent a lot of my own money on, will this collection be considered marital property? Will people have to go through MY belongings in my room when they start deciding how to split assets??
Nope, normally your own personal stuff is all yours. It will all go with where you go, if you will live with your mom, you'll take it all there. If you want some stuff to take to Dad's then you can do that too. Or you might decide to move out on your own anyway, then you can take all your personal belongings. Furniture might be a different story, they might divide those if your parents have paid for them. Just talk to your parents. Let them know that you want to be part of the separation discussions. Good luck :-)
