...all day. I agreed to attend a conference and split room and travel costs with a friend. Last minute she announces her 11 year old daughter will be joining us on the same day that I am slated to do quiet work in room. Friend will be out all day. Thinking of cancelling. Just want your thoughts. I am stunned.

That was presumptuous of her. Probably you should let her know how you feel about it and then you might want to get your own room. Most likely she figured you wouldn't mind but sometimes friends just go too far. Proverbs 21:5 "The plans of the diligent surely lead to success, But all who are hasty surely head for poverty."
