No connection. Greek word oikonomia means a household. English economy means management, as in the class "home economy". Since management always involves pinching pennies, the word comes to mean money management and frugality.
Politics and economics are intimately associated, but not directly related. Economics is the study of reality as measured by money. Politics is an attempt to substitute authority for reality.
