Hydrogen is an element. (A substance consisting of only one kind of atom) It is the simplest atom in the world. It is found as a flammable gas at room temperature. Its name means 'water forming' and is a key element to the compound of water. It is the most abundant element in the universe. (most commonly found element) It is estimated that 90% of the visible universe is composed of hydrogen. It is the first element in the periodic table, and has one proton and one electron in its atom.
Fun fact: Hydrogen used to be used in balloons, as it was lighter than air and floated, until they realised it was highly flammable, and so was replaced with helium. However helium is a lot rarer.
