Is it better to do something because it's your duty or because it's free choice?

So is it better to decide right or wrong based on duty or based on free choice?

That depends on the scenario. But to me,it's best to make a free choice to have a duty to do something. Example is serving in the military is a free choice,but you then have a duty to do.

We should never do something thinking it's our duty. Every act of ours must be a choice based on our intellectual discrimination. We all have the power of discrimination - we have an intellect. We must contemplate, introspect. If somebody thinks it's their duty to kill and they kill, this is a matter of shame. We should not do something untill we ask, we investigate and we realize the Truth. No duty is better than an intellectual choice.
