Im 22 yr old male. I would like to find a girl that doesn't find my passions off putting. I find it easier to talk to women when they have at least similar interests or quirks. But my family says that I should find a girl that not in the least similar, so that it will broaden my horizons and get me into other things. Where my friends and coworker think I should look for one with similar interests/quirks. I want a total outsiders opinion.

I think you'd better to find someone with similar interests to your. You can't find person with exactly identical interests. Similarity will help you at the beginning. There's no identical persons in the world, so you'll find some differences anyway and you will be able to get something new for you.
I definitely agree you have to be different in some ways however one thing to bear in mind it that if a girl is completely different to you, she must be open minded and out going enough to adopt into your life and vise versa. I know that when I'm looking for a guy it's always a good starting point to be interested in at least one similar thing.
