So, I left a very important notebook of mine in my hotel room in Dominican Republic. The notebook has some sentimental stuff in it (but I don't mind if people read it), I just want to get it back! I called the hotel like five times, they found my notebook and at this point I am trying to get them to ship it to me here in the US. They said something about getting a account through DHL? What exactly am I suppose to do after this in order to get my notebook sent to me...?

Set up an account with DHL. They will establish either a pickup location for you or arrange for drop off. Once you have an account (and most likely an account number) call the hotel. They'll prob drop it off at DHL (or have DHL pick it up) and DHL will most likely charge you upon delivery of goods.
