Hello.

I'm in a difficult situation as my mum is unwell and is getting to the stage where looking after a dog is too much. I'm the only person who could take over looking after the dog, without giving her up to someone else (which would break my heart).

The problem is, I own a small apartment and I work full time and I'll be out of the house for standard 9-5 style shifts. I think being out of the house for that long with no other person or animal to interact with would be incredibly cruel, but I'm not sure what else I could do? There's no way I could manage two dogs in my place as it's too small, and no way I can get home during my lunch hour as I live too far away to get back in time.

Is there anything anyone can suggest? Is it too cruel to do or am I being too sensitive? I've grown up with dogs and I've had them all my life bar the last few years as I've been working full time. I honestly don't think it's fair for them to be alone for that long, no matter how many toys or other stimulation you provide - I think they would go insane.

But the only other option would be to give her away, which, if your anything like me, is like suggesting you put your child up for adoption because they've become an inconvenience. It's more or less inconceivable that it's even an option.

Any help would be really appreciated.
