On what animal's back will the snow melt more rapidly, on a small one or a big one?

Increasing the surface area increases the rate of heat transfer and therefore decreases melting time. This works for lots of other things too! If you were to cut up your potatoes before cooking them, they would cook in much less time (more heat transfer) because you have increased the surface area by cutting them up.

So just to clarify, the snow would melt more rapidly on the smaller animal?
