Should I convert to Islam on this January 1st? I was planning on waiting until my 16th birthday?

If you want to be a part of a program, you really should learn the program. If you accept Jesus Christ as your savior, you receive the holy spirit and you are converted to a spiritual being. There is no such conversion in any other religion; you are talking about changing your mind, adopting a new philosophy. That's ok, it's only that you don't know what you are talking about. One wonders why you bother when you don't know the first thing about the program.
