I am writing a story in which the characters are merfolk. Not like the classic mermaids, they're totally covered in scales and fins, don't sing with fish (they eat 'em), and don't stupidity fall in love with some land dweller. They're more like the mermaids from Pirates of the Caribbean, only less human looking.
Anyways, I started to wonder what kind of technology would develop in their underwater lives? Electricity would be kinda a problem, being in water and all, and I've heard ideas such as winding up gears and current powered things. Honestly, I just wanted to here other people's ideas on this. Anything from power ideas, little trinkets, and even large machanics. No idea is a dumb one, say whatever you guys want, you have no idea how much this will help me. Thanks!
And if it helps, the main character is a treasure hunter. He explores sunken ships and cities that humans have abandoned or can't reach.
