Your question implies that either your desired company is intimate / rumbustious in nature, or that said parent is more strict.
If the former, recall that you are under grace, and they have a right to refuse such behaviour of a tenant. You wish to set the rules, you can always leave, and face reality in its whole. Or go hang out.
If the latter, you could attempt to negotiate your way.
