I am currently trying to lose weight for the Air Force. I started out weighing 207lbs with a height of 5'7". I am now down to 190lbs with a body fat percentage of 18%. I recently read that as long as my body fat percentage is under the maximum, I can join. According to my research, the max body fat % is 20% for males under the age of 29 (I'm 23). However, when I discussed this with my recruiter, he said that I was wrong and in order to start the paperwork, I need to be below 18% body fat if I can't meet the weight requirement. He also said that this measurement had to be a formal recording from an actual doctor before he'll look at me. After talking with him, I searched for any information that aligned with this, and everything I found suggested that the max is 20%, and that the recruiter should take my measurements in order to determine if I meet the requirement. Am I wrong? Is the max body fat percentage 18%? I am ready to join, and I'm able to pass the Tacp PAST test standards with ease. Just looking for clarification. Thanks in advance for any help!
