When I visit England I am called mam/madam instead of miss, I am 20 years old. Do I look so old? I mean is it becayse I would look old, or can there be any other reason? It feels like I would be 50 when Im called that! I have noticed I have already small facial lines but no wrinkles. I am from Sweden and I dont understand why men and also women would call me madam or ma`am, it sounds something for an older woman. I feel very pissed off and furious to be called that!!

Some people are not good at judging ages is all, don't worry about it. Lots of people troll dating websites looking for kicks out of upsetting people. Being called madam or ma'am in the UK is a respectful word, it is not meant as an indication of a certain age, just one adult to another, especially if you are the customer and the other person is the server. my advice would be not to be so hung up on looks and appearance. It's obviously important to you but beauty is all in the eye of the beholder, your confidence should come from within not from what someone elses opinion is. Your always going to get hurt if you take that road... cheers! :)
Thanks a lot for the help! I am not about the looks at all but I am super sensitive and I feel bad if someone hints something that I would be different or inferior to others, I pay too much attention to what people think about me :/

Dont worry, it just means theyre being polite. Besides, youre only TWENTY!! Why the heck are you self concious of your age? Youre still very young! If you were in america, you couldent even DRINK yet!! Look hon, i promise, youre not old. Ive never even MET an old looking 20 year old. And dont worry, its just a sign of being courteous. I mean seriously, theyre BRITISH!!! thats just how they are over there.
that why I was concerned also because I have heard many women older than me being called miss. But maybe they thought of calling me madam as general for women. There been 3 occasions, one was bus driver who helped my luggage out of the bus, who called me madam, then two other occasions which I dont remember in which way it happened. Also might be more instances too when tryng to buy train ticket or something.
Thanks. So I can still look my age(20) even though called with that name? It is nice to know, as I have been stressed if I looked older than my age! I get asked to show my papers when I go to bar and sometimes people think I am 18, but some guy commented my photo online saying I look 35 years old even though that photo was taken 2 years ago and my mom and my friends said I looked my age in it. I dont know who that guy is or why he said that if he really thinks I look so old. Can it happen to anyone else that someone can comment on your photo that you would look 15 years more than you are? :( did he want to upset me or does he really think so? I dont care what he thinks as I dont know him but at the same time I do as I felt upset if people really think so. I dont mind if he wanted to bully me but to really think so I dont like it as to me I looked my age though I dont know anymore, another guy said my smile is ugly. It was on dating site so I deleted my profile.
