Why do most religions have some sort of punishment for those who somehow break a religious rule?

Sin is always punishable. Basically like a law written by a country.

Yes there is no doubt about it, but law and religion should not inertwine under any circumstances. Sin and laws are all man made and it's no mystery they both contains flaws. The principal of religion defeats the whole concept of living life how you want to live it.

There must be moral and spiritual boundaries. Most religions have a code of conduct that restricts a person from doing something that is considered wrong. Some are stricter than others. For people to identify themselves as true Christians for example they must conduct themselves like Jesus did and have certain limits and rules.

Yes but as the years pass it is more than evident that people who claim they are of Christian faith or any other religion that relates to a "god" do not conduct the same way "jesus" did.I find it pointless to consider yourself as a religious person because you are bound to sin regardless of religion. I also find the punishments a bit too crude and rather ask why we have to follow a certain path to reach so called "heaven".

Religion is made up by men telling each other what to do. They don't know any other way to get cooperation.

Though there is no rule for his every action, the Christian has God’s law written in his heart and God’s spirit dwells in him at all times, aiding him to discern the right course to take. The holy spirit empowers the individual to overcome the desires of the flesh. When, through his inherited sinfulness, he violates the law of God, undeserved kindness and mercy come in to forgive him on the basis of Christ’s sacrifice. In this way he maintains a clean standing at all times before God. A Christian would be condemned only if he were to become a deliberate, rebellious breaker of God’s law. (Rom. 8:1-4) So in Hebrews 10:26-29 we read: “If we practice sin willfully after having received the accurate knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left, but there is a certain fearful expectation of judgment and there is a fiery jealousy that is going to consume those in opposition. Any man that has disregarded the law of Moses dies without compassion, upon the testimony of two or three. Of how much more severe a punishment, do you think, will the man be counted worthy who has trampled upon the Son of God and who has esteemed as of ordinary value the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and who has outraged the spirit of undeserved kindness with contempt?”

To all those: He that be without sin; let him cast the first stone. I guess I would never throw the first rock. We are all born into sin and cannot get away from it. Even the most faithful will sin. This is why we have forgiveness.

Sin brings about death (Romans 5:12). That is one of the reasons we need discipline (Hebrews 12:11).

Religions have all kinds of superstitions, rituals, dogmas, beliefs that make us prisoners of our faith. Therefore, we must break free from our religion; we must not change our religion but we must go beyond it. Why? Because religion only teaches us the ABC of God, it teaches us the basics. Unfortunately, religions are now controlled by those who themselves haven’t realized the truth. The truth is something else, even the scriptures say that God lives in the temple of your heart. Wherever you are, God is. Therefore, we must go beyond religion into the university of Spirituality. Spirituality is not another religion. It doesn't talk of punishment, it doesn't threaten us for not praying to God, or force us to follow the dictates of religion. It makes us love God, it makes us realize the Truth about God, it makes us one with God. Go on a spiritual quest.
