Why was Imhotep the only recorded architect?

The term "architect" is a recent invention. For most European history there was no distinction between a mason, a sculptor, and an architect: a man was simply a stone cutter, good or not so good. Imhotep seems to have had a lot of talents, since he was given divine status after his death, one of very few commoners to earn such an honor.
