I work for a general contractor- they do industrial construction but no in house engineering? They aren't interested in developing an in house engineering team. I would like to use my PE license and can do so on most jobs instead of awarding to an outside firm or consultant.
I would like to start a consulting company with another engineer and award work to this company- work outside of my work hours or project resources.
What are the issues with conflict of interest with awarding work/contracts to a company I have shares/interest in?
Is this something that I can't pursue because of this conflict?
Is there any way that I can take contracts that I may be in charge of awarding without it being against the law?

I'm working as an assistant project manager- with a PM position in the near future. The engineering work is for temporary structures/construction storm water management design, smaller concrete structures that arent in the awarded design/steel structural changes. Most clients dont want to do any redesign in house- and award change orders to the design with us to go out and get another engineering company to design.
