I'm quite keen on learning Farsi, but knowing that Tajik language uses Cyrillic alphabet it would be much more easier to learn it for me. So my question is would people from Iran, Tehran, to be precise would understand me ? I've read that there aren't that many huge differences between them, but still I'd like to hear native speaker's opinion or someone's who's familiar with the language.

Actually, even though the scripts r different, Dari and Tajik are ultimately the same. so these 3 r different dialects or divisions of Persian. Today the Persian dialects spoken in Iran is just called Persian or Farsi. and the Dari dialect is just called The Dari language. I've met many Afghans in Canada & I have a very hard time understanding them. they use vocabulary that has lost it's use in Iranian Farsi for over 200 years. and Tajik is no different from Dari except for the alphabet difference. An Afghan-Canadian guy once told me that for Afghans it is hard to understand Iranian Farsi cause Iranians talk very fast for them, then there is the issue of different vocabulary and many slangs which they don't have. It is the same with Chinese, they have 2 different dialects, one is Mandarin and the other is Cantonese. They come from the same source but have grown apart in time.
