I received a promotion and raise last month and was supposed to be managing a department with a colleague. They decided to take another job and now I’m running the department alone with all new hires. I’m putting in 50-60 hour weeks to keep the department afloat and since I’m salary I’m not being compensated any extra for the long hours. Is it too soon to ask for more money? At this point my workload and responsibilities are much different than when I accepted the promotion and overall I’m underpaid. A recent new hire with less experience is making a minimal amount less than me and as much as I don’t want to compare salaries, what I’m managing is drastically different than her. Is it too soon to ask for more money even though my overall situation has changed?
