Reproduction is not essential for any organisms to sustain life. Then why is it necessary?

Because it's necessary for the genes to sustain their own existence? The title of Dawkins' book, The Selfish Gene, could itself be an answer to this question.
After all, unlike organisms, genes are reproduced perfectly. Or they aren't reproduced at all.

Consider bacteria, which reproduce by dividing. They don't even need a mate, but still they reproduce as often as possible. When bacteria reproduce without mating, they get sluggish and the descendants are not as robust. Nobody knows exactly why, but reproduction is necessary to sustain life.
