When did the joke; "where are the andes? At the end of your armies" first appear?

My 10 year old said his teacher made it up but it was around when I was a child.  I suspect it will have been around long before that to.  It's the type of joke that would have appeared in children's comics (UK).

This kids joke I heard about twenty years ago.  You have a different version.  The one I heard was 
     "where are your armies?"  
     "At the end of my sleevies."
