Why does energy in an ecosystem move only in one direction?

In ecosystem energy moves in a cycle that is from producers to primary consumer to secondary consumers when they are dead to decomposer from where back to plants , virtually energy and food chain are quiet similar , everyday this energy help life to sustain on Earth.
