I recently started my first truck driving job and get paid hourly. It's a small company that has a contract with a large entity. I was told my route gets paid for 6.75 hours per day, but after I calculated my time, I actually complete my route in close to 7.5 not including a 30 min break or pretrip/post trip. I should also mention that I have to drive the truck about 15 minutes from my employer's garage to the aforementioned entity and back at the end of my shift. I'll admit, I don't know how labor laws are affected by the trucking industry. Is any law being broken here? Or is the contract and subsequent driving to and from the workplace part of the deal? I feel bad confronting my employer about potentially broken wage laws. He trained me in and seems like a decent guy.
