I rent from a realty company. I have been here almost a year and a half. A few days ago, I went to look at another rental house with the same company. I told the realtor that I was interested (my current lease is up and I am on a month to month, so leaving the current place is not a problem). She even offered to talk to the owner of my current place to see if she could get my deposit back sooner than thirty days. This morning, I called and left a message with her secretary asking how much I would need to write the deposit check for. I was told that I would get a call back. Nothing. So I called back this afternoon and was told that she had shown the house to someone else and that they really need it and that she might let them have it, pending they can get the money together. She would let me know on Monday. I was ready to sign the lease, write a check, and start moving stuff in TODAY. Is this ethical? Should I not have a priority since I expressed my interest, because I'm a current tenant (a good one, she said so herself), and because I was ready to get this done? I'm mad.
