I tried putting nail polish on a Styrofoam plate and it melted through! Would love to know what I could put it on that it won't melt so I can do nail art! Thanks!

There are two kinds of nail polish, enamel and lacquer. Enamel chemically changes to a solid. Lacquer is a solvent, usually acetone, which dries and leaves the pigments in a layer. Acetone dissolves Styrofoam. A tsp of acetone will dissolve an amazing volume of foam. You can fill the biggest box with foam packing peanuts and it all will disappear into a cup or so of acetone just as fast as you can stuff it in.
Put your polish on ceramic. If it dries, you can wash it off with acetone, which is what nail polish remover is. Bear in mind that wood furniture is usually finished with lacquer, so get graceful and/or find some other surface to work on.
