What is the best underwear for men to wear?

It depends on where they are going. Hunters prefer silk. People at the south pole wear wool and one pair might last a year or more. They turn them inside out instead of washing. In deserts, men wear loose cotton undies. In cities it seems to be a personal choice between "tighty whities" and boxers. Nobody seems to like commando except soldiers with diarrhea.
