Why is there a sewage backup smell coming from the restroom even when there is no drainage problem?

Every drain has a trap to block sewer smell. If you look under a sink, the trap is the U shaped part. If the water in the trap evaporates, the trap doesn't work any more. So look around for a drain such as a janitor's sink or a floor drain and put water in it occasionally.
