the holy spirit was first mentioned in the bible in genesis as moving over the surface of the earth like it was building or doing things. Some religions teach it as a person or entity but it is better described by its uses in the bible as a force or power from god. The bible says it is poured out on individuals and then they accomplished things or were given better understanding. The apostles were given power to speak different languages, raise the dead, heal sick and handicapped ones, and courage to confront and speak to leaders or authorities of their day. This power seems to give humans the ability to do anything needed at that moment but was gone after the moment passed so they were told to continually pray for more.
If we live according to God’s Word, we receive his holy spirit. We cultivate a Christlike personality, characterized by such appealing qualities as mercy and compassion. (Ephesians 4:24, 32) God’s spirit also produces in us its fruitage—love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, and self-control. (Galatians 5:22, 23) These qualities promote happy and meaningful relationships with others, including family members. We gain inner strength that helps us to face hardship with courage.
