I've been considering getting two pet rats (since I know they can't live alone) for a while now. I plan in having them in my room in a single critter nation cage (i might buy the add on unit). My only concern is wether I should get males or females. I want pet rats that I can cuddle with and I know males are more cuddly than females. However, I am scared that male rats will smell more. Will my room smell bad even if I clean once a week and do regular spot cleaning? At first I was thinking of getting females since they smell less and are smaller but I want to cuddle with my pet rats and female rats seem to always be on the go (I know it depends on the rat).
