Hi, i'm a psychology student from germany and i'm doing a scientific study on social media. In a first step i want to create a list with subjective expectations, motivations, intentions, and so on. So WHY do you use social media (facebook, twitter, ...)?
While most of us understand that being on social media for our small business is a worthwhile marketing endeavor we don’t always necessarily consider why our audience is on social media in the first place, which is ironic because that may be the most important thing to consider.
Social media comes down to a simple basic human desire: the need to connect with other humans, to be part of a group.
Social media came about at a time after the world had, in many ways, become one. Technology and the Internet have made it so we can connect with anyone, anywhere, anytime. We know more about each other than we ever did before.
When decades ago we might have only had the ability to have allegiance to one group that we physically had to walk down the street to the town hall for, we now have all these micro groups that we can be a part of from the comfort of our couch, all thanks to the Internet and social media. The most specific interests or hobbies have groups online that we can be part of.
Now that everything has moved online, including businesses, consumers have hundreds and thousands of choices to search for on their computer while sitting right at home.
Therefore consumers want more accountability and more transparency when it comes to making a decision about their purchase. Social media is a perfect platform for businesses to communicate this kind of information.
While the overarching theme of social media is to connect with one another and share information, it’s also important to understand how people use each social platform more specifically.
Prior to 1960, public schools sponsored several social social events such as Parent-Teachers Association, school plays, and Halloween festivities. Those events no longer take place. Many communities had regular dances, usually at the National Guard Armory, and those events no longer take place. People used to have parties occasionally, but taxation and inflation have made parties too expensive to have regularly. So people are left with almost no social opportunities. "Social" websites are a poor substitute, but they are almost the only substitute we have.
I use Facebook see what my fiends are up to. Sometimes I'll just be bored and the though comes to my mind, " I wonder what's going on on facebook(this virtual hangout)" so I check my notifications first and see if any of my friends messaged me and of not just browse and do whatever else. Notifications or messages first. Then f nothing else just loiter. In the realm of human experience sometime there's just the desire to be with people, and the easiest way to do that is Facebook cause it doesn't require you to make plans or anything.
One big difference between Google search or display ads, and paid social media ads is – you can engage users with paid social media ads. Advertising platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter – all have their own systems for businesses who want to run ads to their users.
For example, you can target people on social media who visited your website, people who have purchased from you before, followed your social page, watched another video ad of yours on Facebook, or commented on your Instagram post.
You can also target people based on demographics, online behavior, and even their interests! Facebook & Instagram have the world’s most advanced ad targeting platform. That’s why 93% of advertisers run ads on these platforms.
Paid social media ads are so effective at driving sales, if you know the right strategies because the targeting options are so detailed, you can show your ad to extremely specific audience segments. On Facebook & Instagram, you can deliver extremely relevant ads to people at every stage of your marketing funnel to move them closer to converting.
Once you have defined your target audience, you can target them with your ads using a wide variety of strategies & tactics on Facebook & Instagram.
