There are self help books, psych doctors, pills and potions. None of these have been a solution for most of our problems. I need to know!
Ecclesiastes 12:12 " To The making of many books there is no end, and much devotion to them is wearisome to the flesh."
So there's a need to be selective. It's evident that the many books to which Solomon referred were not upbuilding or refreshing. He argued that devotion to them instead of providing positive and lasting rewards, " is wearisome to the flesh."
There can be no better book to turn to that is inspired by God, than the Bible.
Reading the Bible on a regular basis can help us to cope with life's problems, to find the truth about God, his standards, his principles, and his purpose for us. It also, helps us to become fully competent and completely equipped for every good work.
Humans need more than air, food, and water. To truly be happy, we have to satisfy our spiritual needs, we need to know the purpose of life and why we are here. God has enabled us to satisfy that need by means of the most widely distributed sacred book in the world, the Holy Bible. The Bible guides us as to how we can live now, it brings comfort, and it has knowledge that lead to life, everlasting life.
I'm sorry to have to say this but most of that is just B.S.
Self-help books can help some people but not all the people. At some point one has to lay down the book and get out there into society and put in place the plans, actions, suggestions, confirmations, choices that one read about. Some will work and some will not.
Psychologists and psychiatrists help people all the time. The ones who are helped are the ones who do the work, shed the tears, let go of their fears and gain the confidence to grow and conquer. The ones who don't get help have your attitude.
Medications can work miracles. It's used during therapy then isnt needed any more. For some it will always be needed. And frankly for some it's never going to work because they are too bat shit crazy. For the ones who cooperate, they keep the doctor informed about how they feel and whats happening or not happening and they work together to find the specific medication/s and dosages that do work. For the ones who think they dont need it, take it randomly, abuse it, sell it, and don't keep the doctor in the loop or have your attitude then it won't work. I've seen it work many, many times so I know it does.
Your attitude is, sadly, harmful to yourself and is used as an excuse for not doing the work and being responsible. It all works you just have to do it. There is no magic wand. YOU have to do the work. Wishing you the courage to do your work.
First, people in general are absolutely lousy at identifying exactly what their problems are. Some people think drugs are a problem, but the fellow who takes them considers them to be the solution to a problem. It is well demonstrated by professional analysts that when a government thinks something is a problem, the problem was in fact created by the same government that wants to stamp it out. Millions of people firmly believe that education makes lives better, but millions of students are graduating and finding no jobs. Because, you know, the world does not need so many BSc and PhD people.
Oh, and when you look at "self-help" books, please remember that they are trying to sell books, not help. You can read a book on how to improve memory, and then find that you can remember things just because you want to, not because you learned a method in a book.
