I am writing a fictional book with dragons in it. I don't really want the dragons to speak via a mental connection or common tongue. Any suggestion is welcomed.
-- Sign Language.
-- A language that only certain people are born with the knowledge of it e.g. Harry Potter's Snake Tongue in Chamber of Secrets.
-- Depending on how advanced it's speaking is supposed to be, maybe it could engrave on the walls/floor?
Apart from mental connection and common tongue, their isn't a lot of ways really...
Do you mean when they're speaking to each other or to everybody?
They could use smoke signals, or make charred symbols on rocks.& other objects or surfaces, or maybe they could communicate ideas by acrobatic gestures in flight. It depends on how intricate you want their language to be.
Magic lets us speak in a human tone you know, I would know...I tried to speak to a human in dragon as a hatchling and they lobed my head off. How rude. Anyway if you write a book with a dragon please just please, and I beg you don't have a "brave" knight cowardly slay the dragon
